      My Philosophical Fellow-teens:  Greetings!
This month's Areopagus meeting will be held Friday, April 11th, at 7 p.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church's social hall.  The address is 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI, 48444.  For emphasis:  The meeting will be held in the social hall attached to the church, NOT the rectory.
If you could, Father Ward would like it if some of the Areopagites came to the 6 p.m. Way of the Cross devotions before the meeting.  Parents are welcome and Father suggests that they bring more comfortable chairs for themselves to sit on instead of the folding chairs in the hall.  Please bring a meatless snack to pass and plenty of questions to read and discuss.

Felicitations, Fellow Philosophers!

As many of you already know, I have taken over secretarial duties from Henricus Tyranicus.  Many thanks to him for his loyal service!
Our last Areopagus was held at the Kostiuks' house.  We are very grateful to them for hosting the ample army of Areopagites!  This month and February we discussed various topics. (I had not posted the questions from last month, very sorry about that.)  The questions, comments and trivial matters included:
  • How could one persuade and explain to Protestants that Purgatory is a real place?
  • Is flirting a sin?  The following topic branched off of this question:  When does teasing become sinful or fall under flirting?
  • Is having a boyfriend or girlfriend while still young (high school, early college, and under) and with no intention of marrying that person OK?
  • Is it OK to write fictional stories about saints (especially if there is little known about their life)?
  • How should one bear witness to God when constantly surrounded by people who reject Him?
  • What can one do to avoid getting distracted or get out of distraction while saying the Rosary? Also:  What should they be meditating on while saying it?
  • Would attending the marriage of a Catholic cousin getting married outside the Church be a mortal sin?
  • What should someone about to have spiritual direction think about before going?
  • How should one respond to a professor who insists that the evangelization of the Germanic peoples was tyranny on the part of the Catholic Church?
I do not yet know for certain where the next Areopagus will be held.  As a note, April's meeting will not be held the third Friday of the month, but the second Friday (April 11th), as Good Friday falls on the third Friday.  If you are interested in hosting a meeting, please let me know.
Have a blessed Lent Everyone!

We had a great Areopagus last time at the Spankies! Thanks to them for opening up their home to our invasion. A number of interesting topics were discussed, including:

  • Do artificially created embryos have souls?
  • What are the the top ten books you would recomend to people our age?
  • Can spirits harm the living? Can the living see spirits? (This one took forever.)
  • How and when was the decision made which books should be in the bible?
  • Is it sinful to attend a different rite than the Latin Rite?
  • What is the hardest part of skydiving?
  • What is your opinion on the recent Papal comments on Abortion, Contraception, and Gay Marriage?
Our next meeting will be at the Peddemors' house, on the 18th of October. Address to follow.

Areopagus is this Friday, July 19th , at 7:00 P.M., at the Sacred Heart Rectory, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, 48444. Note: Google maps sends you about half a block south of Sacred Heart. The rectory is the brick building south of the Church. Bring a dish to pass, an inquisitive mind, and a friend with another inquisitive mind. See you then!

Hello Everybody! We recently had a wonderful areopagus at the Romstads, where important questions were asked such as:

  • If you see someone wearing two threads of clothes, do you have to stone them to death?
  • Is smoking cigarettes a mortal sin?
  • Can you preform activities that prevent from going to Mass?
  • Is it a mortal or venial sin to eat meat on Friday without doing penance for it?
  • What are the affects?
  • Is Screamo music intrinsically evil?
  • Since Christ sanctified all water when he was baptized, why does the priest exorcise the water when he blesses it?
  • Can one go into professions where there will be pressure to do immoral things?
Our next Areopagus will be at Raymond's house. I am not posting his address on the blog this time, so if you need directions contact me henry@trailblazerswyd.org. If you want to ballpark it, it's somewhere in St. Clair. See you on the 15th!

Hello everybody! Had a world class areopagus at the Kucels. Kudos to them for hosting us. We had a plethora of intriguing questions, such as

  • What should those hoping to go into nursing do about Obamacare?
  • Can I argue with my parents?
  • How should you discern your vocation?
  • Why is the half-time break 7 minutes long?
  • Does an invalid mass fulfill your obligation?
  • A very technical question about Latin and the Creed.
  • What are some good resources for godparents?
  • Do breath mints break the fast?
  • How do you control your thoughts.
  • Is it wrong to wish for martyrdom.
  • How much should collateral damage be avoided.
  • Are Venial sins forgiven through acts of perfect contrition.
  • Can we do evil that good may come of it?
  • How did Father feel before his first Mass.
On a bright new side note, we now have a Facebook page. Feel free to check it out!

Our next meeting is the 18th of January, at the Romstads, 644 Jefferson Rd, Lapeer, 48446. See you all there!
